Types of Structural Durability Testing
Vibration Testing
MAST System
Multi-axis simulation is used to closely simulate a field operating environment or a defined vibration profile requirement for durability of systems and components. The MAST system can reproduce field inputs through 6 Degree-of-Freedom motion (Longitudinal, Lateral, Vertical, Roll, Pitch, and Yaw). Compared to full-vehicle proving ground testing, MAST tests are conducted using only the components of interest. As a result, development timelines can be reduced by elimination of non-damaging sections and continuous testing.
Single Axis – Hydraulic
Single axis actuators are directionally configurable (vertical, horizontal, and angular) as required to match test specific requirements.
High Frequency Vibration
Tests for control capability: Sine, Random, Sine on Random, Road (Test Track), and Shock.
Pressure Cycle
Being a leader in heat transfer technology, Modine employs various pressure cycle tests. Pressure cycle testing seeks to understand the effect of pressure and temperature on heat transfer products to determine strength and durability.
Hydrostatic Burst Test
A hydrostatic burst test is a way to test for strength and leaks. It involves filling the product with test fluid and pressurizing it. We also can use an oven to heat the ambient air around the product being tested.
Thermal Cycle
Another step in validating heat transfer products is the Thermal Cycle test. Its purpose is to determine the effect of two temperature extremes on any given product to the point of thermal fatigue. We recommend this test for product reliability and design validation.
Other
Modine also has the capability to perform deflection and drop tests. Our wind tunnels can assess the performance of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles; light, medium, and heavy duty trucks; agricultural and construction equipment; military vehicles; and stationary gen sets.
